HIV infection has an insidious nature of brewing in the body until significant loss of Immune function leads to the development of AIDs. This means majority of Individuals who contract the infection will haven no symptoms early in the disease course. In the U.S., nearly 15% of HIV infected individuals are unaware of their HIV status. The WHO states only 54% of Individuals with HIV infection are aware of their condition worldwide. As a result it is recommended all adolescents and adults between the ages of 13 to 75 years be tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime.
